Catch And Release To Preserve Populations

Fishing is great fun for a lot of people. When you consider the fact that fishing is a sport that can be done by just about anyone then you can see that you are getting much in the way of happiness. There is little that cannot be enjoyed when you are out there fishing.

As a whole you will note that you have the very best in the context where you are getting the best from the fishing that you are doing. However, you also have to worry about the humane process of fishing.

You never want to start destroying the outdoors because of the fact that we want it to be there for the future generations to take part in. This is why catch and release is such a good idea. This is the process where you are catching fish and then releasing them back into the water.

You will only keep that which you plan to eat. This is the method that we are using to further the fish population. You have to see that many places in the world are seeing a tremendous downturn in populations of the most popular fish.

This is because the areas are being grossly over fished for the most part and people are not releasing their fish back to the water. The more fish that are taken the less chance that the fish will ever be able to rebound. There are many parts to the catch and release process.

You should learn how to properly handle the fish and how to properly release them when you are doing so. As such you need to learn a couple of skills. This will help you better understand how things are going to work and why you are working to save the fish population.

Even if you are practicing catch and release there is still the very distinct possibility that you are going to cause the fish harm if you are not sure about how to go about getting the fish released without danger.

Handling
This is very important. You should always wet your hands before handling a fish. This is very true of the more fragile species, like bass and so on. If you wet your hands then you are actually protecting the protective layer of slime and so on that is on the side of the fish and preventing it from becoming injured.

So you should take due care in wetting your hands. You should also avoid touching the insides of the gills. This used to be a common way to hold fish but we now know that it actually causes them harm. Either grasp them with both hands or lip the fish like you can do with a large bass.

Releasing
The fish needs to be turned back to the water as soon as possible. It should not be thrown back but instead gently placed in the water and then released once the tale starts to move. This is vital.

You do not want to shock them by placing them into the water. Simply allow them to get used to it for a few seconds before releasing.
